I Saw A Man Take A Bull Up The Ass... no lie.
This weekend could quite possibly have been the soul reason why I came to France…minus the hot hot boys. Friday night I got HAMMERED with some friends here and a guy from Prague. Woke up next morning hung over as shit and very much so late for a bus that I needed to be on. The entire group took a very hung over bus ride t a town in the Camargue called Aige Mortes. We went to a bull farm and got feed so much bull meat it was ridiculous. I mean we had bull sausage, bull pate, bull stew, rice….from the bull fields. It was a huge intense lunch. After that we went to our amazing hotel and met the other CEA group from Grenoble. I loved that group, all the girls pretty much rocked and there was only ten of them so they were all really close. So the sun was out, the weather mild and we set off for the bullfight. That’s right I saw a Spanish bullfight in a French town with American rock music. The way there were working the part we were part of was that they had a huge ring set up and a bull would be let loose into it and anybody who was anybody could try the touch the bull and run after it. So naturally I was down there with a few of the guys from Grenoble having the time of my life being chased by bulls and shitting my pants. So by now the bulls are really pissed off and Dana and I are leaning on a fence when we see a particularly pissed off bull comes running at us along the fence. So we tried to hope it to get out of the way of the FUCKING HORNS when we see that they have released 4 other bulls on the other side of the fence so there is no room for us to jump in. So I did this weird Hop in mid air thing to try and be “one” with the fence and Dana just flattened herself against the fence. The bulls brushed passed us and we booked it for the stands where all the men were laughing at us. My heart was racing and I was shaking like a leaf. Of course I would do it again.
After the bulls were in the ring they would run them through the town one at a time with guys on horses as guardians. This worked really well until one bull decided he wanted to turn right… the last we saw of that bull was his ass rounding another corner with the guardians tearing off after him. Awesome!
After that we attended a concert in the Centre Ville, which was awesome but not as excited seeing as there was a huge lack of bulls.
The next day went to a city called Saint Marie de la Mare we climbed onto the stone roof of a church that was built in the 11th century and watched a procession through the town down to the sea. There is a story about the cousins of the Virgin Mary and they landed in Saint Marie de la Mare with their servant called Black Sara and now the town celebrates it. They carry the statues of the Maries down to the sea and bless them in the water. It’s very cool to watch and follow along. When that was done we went to ride horses, which was very interesting. Many of the people had never even touched a horse and were therefore terrified to be sitting on top of one. I found this hilarious. But the horses were pissed off and buying for supremacy between themselves so there was a lot of misplaced kicks and bites, so most of the people that got off the horse were far more bruised and discolored than they should have been. Worry not, I did fine.
